1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Veloquence collects, uses, shares, protects, and deletes information when people use the Veloquence mobile app, website, support channels, and related services.

Veloquence is a vocabulary-learning app with daily word cards, saved words, favorites, scheduled quizzes, practice access, streaks, XP, reminders, account sync, and optional Premium features such as Say It pronunciation practice from the learning card. The website is public and informational only. It does not provide a login, account portal, or protected dashboard.

For privacy questions or requests, contact support@veloquence.dev.

2. Controller and Scope

Veloquence determines the purposes and means of processing personal information for the app and website. Where a store, payment provider, ad network, analytics provider, cloud host, or device platform processes information under its own terms, that provider may also act as an independent controller or business for its own processing.

This policy applies to Veloquence-operated services. It does not replace the privacy notices of Apple, Google, Stripe, Supabase, Sentry, PostHog, Google Mobile Ads, Expo, hosting providers, email providers, or other third-party services used to deliver the app.

4. Sources of Information

  • Information users provide directly, such as account details, feedback, reports, support emails, and deletion requests.
  • Information generated while using the app, such as learning progress, quiz results, settings, and diagnostic events.
  • Information from service providers, such as subscription status from app stores or payment processors.
  • Information automatically collected by hosting, security, analytics, diagnostics, notification, and ad providers.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

Where UK or EU data protection law applies, Veloquence relies on the following legal bases, depending on the activity:

  • Contract: to create accounts, provide app features, sync learning data, and manage Premium access.
  • Consent: for optional permissions such as microphone access, push notifications, and advertising choices where required.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure the app, prevent fraud, diagnose crashes, improve features, respond to support, and enforce terms.
  • Legal obligation: to keep records required for tax, billing, consumer protection, legal claims, or regulator requests.

6. How We Use Information

  • Provide daily cards, definitions, examples, audio, saved words, favorites, scheduled quizzes, streaks, XP, Premium Say It practice, and reminders.
  • Authenticate users, sync progress, restore purchases, and manage Premium entitlements.
  • Score pronunciation, show recent practice, and process microphone input only for the requested feature.
  • Provide support, investigate word reports, process deletion requests, and send service communications.
  • Deliver ads or sponsor breaks for free users where enabled, subject to consent and device settings.
  • Analyze crashes, performance, feature usage, and reliability to improve Veloquence.
  • Protect users, the app, the website, providers, and legal rights.

7. Microphone and Pronunciation

Premium Say It pronunciation practice requires microphone permission. Users can deny or revoke microphone access in device settings. If access is denied, pronunciation scoring may not work, but other learning features can still be used.

Premium users can start Say It directly from a learning card. Veloquence is designed to process short audio input temporarily for pronunciation scoring. The audio itself is not intended to be stored after scoring. Recent practice history may store the practiced word, score, feedback, and timestamp so users can see their progress.

8. Payments and Subscriptions

Purchases may be processed by Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe. Veloquence does not store full card numbers. Payment providers may process payment details, tax information, subscription IDs, renewal dates, receipts, chargeback information, and purchase status under their own terms and privacy notices.

Deleting a Veloquence account does not necessarily cancel a subscription managed by Apple, Google, or Stripe. Users should cancel through the provider used for purchase.

9. Ads, Tracking, and Consent

The free plan may show ads or sponsor breaks. If Google Mobile Ads or another ad network is enabled, that provider may process device, placement, impression, advertising identifier, consent, and delivery data to show, limit, measure, and secure ads.

Where required by law or platform rules, Veloquence will request consent before personalized ads or tracking. Users may also control ad tracking through device settings, platform privacy settings, and any in-app privacy choices made available.

Veloquence does not sell personal information for money. If an advertising or analytics configuration is considered a "sale" or "sharing" under applicable privacy law, Veloquence will provide the required notice and opt-out choices.

10. Analytics and Diagnostics

Veloquence may use diagnostics and analytics providers such as Sentry and PostHog to understand crashes, errors, performance, app version, device type, locale, and feature usage. These tools help maintain the app and improve the product.

The website does not intentionally use tracking cookies by default. Hosting and security providers may still process basic logs needed to serve and protect the website.

11. How We Share Information

Veloquence may share information with the following categories of recipients:

  • Cloud, database, authentication, storage, hosting, and infrastructure providers.
  • App stores, payment processors, and subscription management services.
  • Ad networks, consent tools, analytics providers, diagnostics providers, and notification providers.
  • Email, support, security, fraud prevention, and operational service providers.
  • Professional advisers, regulators, courts, law enforcement, or other parties where required or allowed by law.
  • A buyer, successor, or affiliate if Veloquence is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset transfer.

Service providers are expected to process information only for the services they provide to Veloquence or as otherwise permitted by law.

12. Retention

Veloquence keeps information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or allowed by law.

  • Account, learning, settings, saved words, favorites, and quiz data are generally kept while the account remains active.
  • Temporary pronunciation audio is designed to be deleted after scoring. Scores and recent practice history may remain in the account.
  • Deletion requests are usually processed within 30 days after verification, unless legal or security reasons require more time.
  • Backups and logs may take up to 90 days to expire on normal backup cycles.
  • Support, billing, tax, fraud, dispute, and legal records may be kept longer where needed for legitimate business or legal reasons.

13. Deletion, Access, and Correction

Users can request account deletion in the app where available, or by emailing support@veloquence.dev from the email address connected to the account. See Account Deletion for details.

The in-app deletion flow is designed to show a warning, require the user to type "DELETE", and then start a 10-second countdown during which deletion can still be cancelled. If the countdown completes without cancellation, the account is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

Users may also request access, correction, export, restriction, objection, or other privacy rights available in their location. Veloquence may need to verify the request before acting on it.

14. User Choices

  • Microphone access can be managed in device settings.
  • Push notifications can be managed in Veloquence settings and device notification settings.
  • Premium subscriptions can be managed through the store or payment provider used for purchase.
  • Advertising identifiers and tracking choices can be managed through device privacy settings and any in-app consent controls.
  • Support and privacy requests can be sent to support@veloquence.dev.

15. Regional Privacy Rights

Depending on a user's location, privacy laws may provide rights to know, access, correct, delete, export, restrict, object to certain processing, withdraw consent, opt out of sale or sharing, limit sensitive information use, and avoid discrimination for exercising privacy rights.

UK and EEA users may also have the right to complain to their local supervisory authority. UK users can contact the Information Commissioner's Office. California users may have CCPA rights if Veloquence is subject to that law. Requests can be sent to support@veloquence.dev.

16. Children

Veloquence is not directed to children under 13, and users under the age required by their country or region must use the app only with permission from a parent or guardian. Veloquence does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If a parent or guardian believes a child has provided personal information, contact support@veloquence.dev so the information can be reviewed and deleted where appropriate.

17. International Transfers

Veloquence and its service providers may process information in countries other than the user's country of residence. Where required, Veloquence relies on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy decisions, contractual protections, standard contractual clauses, provider data processing terms, or another lawful transfer mechanism.

18. Security

Veloquence uses reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information, including secure transport, provider authentication, access controls, limited administrative access, logging, and service-provider security controls. No app, website, or storage system can be guaranteed perfectly secure.

19. App Store Privacy Disclosures

App Store and Google Play privacy labels or data safety forms are summaries of Veloquence practices and third-party SDK behavior. They should be kept consistent with this policy and updated whenever the app's data collection, use, sharing, tracking, providers, or retention practices change.

20. Changes to This Policy

Veloquence may update this policy as features, providers, laws, or data practices change. The latest version will be posted on this page with a new last updated date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
